Dr. Gies Vermögensverwaltungs-Gruppe
The Dr. Gies Vermögensverwaltungs-Gruppe includes the Dr. Gies Vermögensverwaltungs-GmbH (Dr. Gies VV), the SKL Motor Service GmbH and the SKL Motor GmbH with a total of some 100 employees. Business activities are concentrated on development and manufacture of engines in the output range between 500 and 2500 kW, project engineering and implementation of turn-key combined heat and power stations (CHP) with engines running on vegetable oil, in the output range between 1 and 20 MW and operation of such stations.

Within the group, the Dr. Gies VV acts as general contractor for the supply of CHP's with engines running on vegetable oil, i.e. the company adopts the complete responsibility for planning, license application and plant erection on a turn-key basis. Backed by its own competence, the Dr. Gies VV may act as operator for a company associated to the group of firms.

Combined heat and power stations with engines running on vegetable oil
Combined heat and power stations (CHP) with engines running on vegetable oil are gaining more and more importance under consideration of a higher environmental consciousness, shortage of mineral oil resources and promotion of power feed-in on the basis of the law on renewable energies (EEG).

The EEG law guarantees 20 years of safe revenue to the operator. The mains operators are obliged to accept, to preferentially feed-in and to remunerate the "ecological" power. Provided the heat generated in addition is used and/or sold, investments may amortise within shortest time and generate respectable returns.

Technology
The technical equipment of our CHP's includes:

• Combustion engine systems, each of them comprising one SKL engine and one 400 V generator
• Peripheral equipment:
  
  • Noise-insulating cladding with ventilation
  • Exhaust gas cleaning
  • Emergency cooling
  • Fuel preparation
  • Alarm and monitoring
  • Heat recovery by means of heat exchangers
  • Switchgear and transformer station
  • Heated tank system with safety appliances

Vegetable oil is exclusively used as fuel. For reasons of procurement and economy, palm oil is preferentially used. The CHP's are designed for continuous operation, i.e. at least 7600 service hours per year.
